What a Sustainability Report Helps Us See

A sustainability report captures a moment in time, but its value comes from what happens next. The real benefit is using the insights it provides to make better decisions, focus efforts where they matter most, and measure progress over time.

As part of Pyle’s CleanJourney™ sustainability program, the Sustainability Report provides a clearer view of how fuel, energy, water, and materials are used across the business. Understanding where resources are consumed and where the greatest impacts occur allows us to identify meaningful opportunities for improvement and make more informed operational decisions.

Understanding Where the Greatest Impact Exists

Fleet fuel is the clearest example.

Our greenhouse gas inventory shows that Scope 1 emissions account for 97% of Pyle’s combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions footprint. Scope 1 includes emissions from trucks, facility fuel consumption, and refrigerants used in cooling systems. Scope 2 represents emissions associated with purchased electricity. Looking deeper into the data, fleet operations account for approximately 90% of total emissions.

That insight helps put our sustainability efforts into perspective.

Pyle’s environmental initiatives span facilities, water conservation, waste reduction, equipment modernization, and renewable energy. While each of these areas contributes to progress, the data confirms that transportation fuel is where the greatest opportunity exists to reduce emissions.

As a transportation and logistics provider, improving environmental performance depends largely on reducing fuel consumption while maintaining the service customers rely on. That includes investing in equipment maintenance, minimizing unnecessary idling, supporting efficient driving practices, and expanding the use of lower-carbon fuel options where they deliver measurable benefits.

Applying the Same Principles Across the Business

The same approach applies throughout the organization.

Truck wash water reclamation systems help reduce fresh water consumption. Electric forklifts reduce on-site emissions within warehouse operations. Recycling and reuse programs help divert materials from disposal streams. While these initiatives vary in scale and impact, they are guided by the same principle: understand how resources are used, identify opportunities to improve efficiency, and measure results over time.

Supporting Customer Sustainability Goals

This report also strengthens conversations with customers.

Many shippers are working to better understand the environmental impact of their supply chains and need reliable emissions data from their transportation providers. By bringing together emissions reporting, operational sustainability initiatives, and programs such as CleanJourney™ Renewable Diesel, the report provides greater transparency and creates a stronger foundation for those conversations.

As customer expectations continue to evolve, access to credible sustainability data becomes increasingly important. The report helps provide the visibility customers need to better understand the environmental impact of their transportation networks and make more informed supply chain decisions.

Using Data to Guide Future Progress

A sustainability report is not a finish line, nor is it intended to be. It provides a baseline for understanding where we are today and where opportunities exist to improve tomorrow.

When we understand how resources are being used, we can make smarter decisions, focus efforts where they will have the greatest impact, and track progress more consistently over time.

A report documents where we’ve been. The actions that follow determine where we go next.
