A. Duie Pyle has an extensive warehouse operation to manage its customer’s inventory throughout. Andy Moul, director warehouse & distribution solutions, joins the Talking Supply Chain podcast to discuss the technologies and strategies that are working in today’s warehouse environment.

Warehouses hold a special place within a supply chain. An efficient warehouse operation ensures items move smoothly from one location to another, from shipper to end customer. But, warehouses also can be bottlenecks. Overflowing inventory and inefficient operations can slow the loading/unloading process, creating a cascade effect that results in products getting to their final destination late, or even damaged.

And that is just one part of a warehouse operation. Andy Moul, director of warehouse & distribution solutions at A. Duie Pyle, joined the Talking Supply Chain podcast to discuss warehouse operations, some of the technologies leading to more efficient throughput, and why proactive inventory management is a critical part of running a successful supply chain operation.

Among the trends Moul said A. Duie Pyle are seeing right now is proactive inventory stocking as companies try to mitigate the impact of tariffs, and the increasing utilization of automation and artificial intelligence.

“There’s many tasks that historically, were directly supported by people or by machines operated by people,” Moul said. “These are tasks, particularly when they’re highly repetitive and ergonomically challenging, where automation makes all the sense in the world to try to figure out ways for machines to complete tasks that folks found or were already completed by machines that had to be powered or controlled live by an operator.”

Moul also discussed how AI is being used in the warehouse space and how A. Duie Pyle is working with customers on the important task of proper inventory placement.
